Apparently the Group called "The Irish" has been abandoned. I have applied to take over this orphaned group, as yet to no avail.
So, I am introducing a group called "The Celts" (pronounced Kelts). This group does not have anything to do with the sports/basketball group called the Boston Celtics (pronounced Celt, soft C). There is no soft C in the Celtic Alphabet. More about that another time.
Anyway, I thought that "The Celts" was more inclusive. Celtic peoples are from all over. Scots, Welsh, Cornish, Irish, and a large section of NW France keep the various Gaelic languages, histories and cultures alive.
Why is that important anyway?
Because it has been threatened by invaders and outside landowners for centuries.
In some countries, the Gaelic language is kept alive only by the elderly native speakers. With that realization, enforcement by law requires the youth to take Gaelic as part of their matriculation. Without a good education, they will not be accepted to higher education.
As to the history of the Celts, there is dispute as to the first and native settlers. Were they an unknown or were they Milesians?
It remains a topic of debate.
All are welcome to participate. This is not "closed" to Celtic peoples. I am multi-racial and multi-cultural.
I happen to identify with the Irish, part of "The Celts".
Apply to this group.........I'll send some invites too, but I don't know everyone on the Vine..............yet.
Lets have fun, discuss the language, current political situation in European Celtic Regions, post historical articles, and revel in the culture of these peoples. I have to say, it's pretty rich in so many areas. Song, music, dance, community, and more yet to be discovered!!
Failte (Welcome).
